Blanche Rubin is an artist and an art educator. She began painting in her teens. Her oil paintings and watercolors are bold and colorful, the work of an assured and dynamic artist. She gravitated to pottery in her thirties and her work is both beautiful and practical. Blanche worked as an art teacher in the Pearl River, New York Public schools and later got her Doctorate in Art Education at Indiana University.

From 1980 - 84 she taught Art Education and Museum Education at Northern Illinois University. After moving to Los Angeles in June 1984 she became the Program Evaluator for the J. Paul Getty Institute for Education in the Arts, creating a nationwide program still in use in schools today. Blanche continued at the Getty until the end of 1997.

Blanche has been a horsewoman for much of her adult life. She has had as many as six horses at one time, all Paso Finos. She has been an ardent follower of the Pat Parelli program of Natural Horsemanship.

Blanche has also been a student and teacher of meditation for 50 years and has been married to Bruce Joel Rubin, an Academy award-winning screenwriter, for nearly as long. She has helped support him throughout his career and famously is responsible for quitting her job as a professor at Northern Illinois University and moving him and her family to Hollywood where his work and their lives flourished.

Together they have two sons, Joshua and Ari. Joshua and his wife Evanne Heath have two children, Thalia and Elijah. Blanche and Bruce currently divide their time between homes in Los Angeles and San Francisco.

To correct a long-standing rumor, Blanche was not the role model for Demi Moore in the pottery scene in GHOST which Bruce wrote. That was the director’s idea.
